Qatar’s Abdullah al-Tamimi fought back from two games down to reach the semi-finals of the Qatar Circuit Squash Championship at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex yesterday.
The third seed won a five-game thriller against Egyptian seventh seed Mazen Gamal 9-11 8-11 13-11 11-4 11-9 to make it to last four.
This was al-Tamimi’s second five-game match in as many days after he
was pushed to another hour-long match by Spain’s Iker Pajares Bernabeu on Saturday.
Al-Tamimi will now face Egyptian second seed Mohamed Reda, who beat Joel Makin of Wales 11-9 11-9 11-9.
In the other matches of the day, top seed Jen Schoor had a straight-forward 11-8 11-8 11-8 win over sixth seed Nathan Lake. Schoor will now face eighth seed Ammar Altamimi, who also rallied from two games down to beat fourth Lance Beddoes 9-11 9-11 11-7 11-4 11-8.
