Qatar Development Fund (QDF) has signed a framework agreement with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in New York.
HE the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah and Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, have signed the agreement.
The agreement aims to develop innovative and effective means to fight disease and extreme poverty all over the world.
The signing of the agreement comes as part of co-operation in the field of development between the two institutions, agreed in January 2015 through the co-financing of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI).
General Director of the Qatar Development Fund, Khalifa bin Jassim al-Kuwari,  said: “The agreement will contribute to expanding the Qatari foreign assistance in the health sector, and provide innovative and effective solutions in the field of development and the fight against disease and poverty in the Arab countries, the Islamic world and the whole world.”  
Meanwhile, the head of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Middle East relations, Hassan al-Damluji said that the State of Qatar has been a major donor over many years and has contributed to the development efforts in many countries all over the world.  
“As the fight against disease and poverty requires the establishment of strong international partnerships, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is delighted to partner with Qatar Development Fund for the planning and financing of projects that will improve the health and economic conditions of poor people”, he added.
Qatar Development Fund is a public organisation established by virtue of Qatari Law No 19 of 2002. It contributes to the capital of financial development institutions and other international and foreign institutions that aim at helping developing countries in the development of their economies and representing Qatar in such institutions.
