The Qatar International Regatta — Sail Qatar 2015 — will begin from today, the Qatar Sailing and Water Sports Federation said yesterday.
Sailors from Qatar, India, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Oman, Singapore, USA, Italy, Turkey, Finland, China, Chinese Taipei, UAE and Thailand will be taking part in the championship.
The organisers said that several female sailors will also be competing in the five-day competition. The sailors will be competing in the Optimist, Optimist Team Racing, Laser 4.7, Laser RDL, Laser Standard and Hobie-16 classes. The first race of the event Optimist Team Racing will be held tomorrow. Twenty sailors are going to represent Qatar in the championship.
According to the rule, a minimum of four races is required to be completed to constitute the regatta and when five or fewer races are completed, a boat’s series will be the total of the race scores. When five or more races are completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
