HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada chaired the Qatari delegation participating in the 9th meeting of the Qatar-Japan joint economic committee, which was held in Tokyo.
Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yoichi Miyazawa and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Yasuhide Nakayama presided over the Japanese side.
According to a statement issued by Qatar’s Ministry of Energy and Industry today, the two sides reviewed the latest updates with regard to the development and follow-up of bilateral cooperation between the two countries after HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani’s visit to Japan, and discussed a number of topics of common interest.
HE al-Sada was accompanied by government officials from different ministries and bodies, in addition to a number of officials from Qatari companies operating in the energy field. The meeting was also attended by Qatar’s ambassador to Japan Yousef Mohamed Bilal.
The Joint Committee meeting preceded by a preparatory meeting at the experts-level in the field of energy, and another meeting for a team tasked with enhancing the business climate. The two meetings addressed the results achieved in the areas of joint co-operation and ways to strengthen and expand it in the future. Their findings and recommendations were presented to the Joint Committee meeting.
HE al-Sada, in his opening remarks, said that the ties of co-operation between Qatar and Japan witnessed a great boost after the visit of HH the Emir of Qatar to Japan in February as it led to the intensification of contacts in order to deepen the prospects for cooperation and expand into new areas.
His Excellency highlighted the need to diversify and activate co-operation to include areas other than energy such as education, scientific research, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, tourism and civil aviation sectors, hoping that this is done at a fast pace in the future so as to meet the aspirations of the leaderships of both the countries.
For his part, Miyazawa said his country appreciates the efforts exerted by the State of Qatar in providing stable energy supply to Japan and is interested in the consolidation of these relations to include other fields.
