Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has launched a new social programme called ‘Effective Parenting’ to strengthen Qatari families.
Seventy-five beneficiaries from vulnerable families, mothers, grandmothers, and would-be wives have benefited from this QR 100,000 programme so far, QRC said.
The programme comprises a three-day series of lectures and workshops, taught by psychological and educational experts.
Topics include role of a social worker, effective management of behaviour, family education, I make the change, distress of widows and divorcees, and resolution of marital strife.
The programme has positive impact on society. It creates socially trained, self-managed group with professional and academic experience needed for upbringing of children. It focuses on women since they have strong influence on children, QRC said.
QRC Director of Social Development Rashid bin Saad al-Mohannadi said, “Parents have a big influence on a child’s personality. Children spend most of their time with their parents and assimilate their thought, attitudes, values, and behaviours. Parents are role models for the children. Behaviour has more effect than just verbal advice.”
Effective parenting, he said, is a global tested-and-proven programme to improve the way parents bring their children up. Its key premise is that all educators, including parents, need training.
