Ooredoo has said it is the only operator to combine 20plus10MHz bands on its 4Gplus network, enabling it to reach the higher maximum top speed of 225Mbps, and giving its customers “faster on-average” Internet speeds.
Ooredoo Qatar chief executive officer Sheikh Saud bin Nasser al-Thani yesterday said the company was “continuing to pursue an ambitious network modernisation” to meet existing and future capacity and position Qatar as “one of the best-connected” nations in the world.
Ooredoo currently provides Qatar’s biggest, fastest mobile data network, supported by carrier aggregation to deliver Qatar’s fastest Internet speed.
For customers, Ooredoo’s investment in cutting-edge technologies is delivering an ever-improving Internet experience, enabling them to download larger files faster and stream video more easily than ever before.
Sheikh Saud said, “Ooredoo’s network is the fastest because we have designed it to be the fastest, in support of the Qatar National Vision 2030. With Qatar growing daily and the FIFA World Cup 2022 approaching, we have brought together a network aggregation strategy, spectrum strategy and outdoor/indoor network modernisation initiative to support Qatar’s biggest, fastest network.”
Ooredoo currently provides extensive 4G coverage across the whole of Qatar, with speeds of up to 150Mbps for 4G.
“Network performance will vary, depending on location, number of users connected to the network and surroundings. However, Ooredoo is delivering the fastest average speeds and the fastest maximum speeds, and our continuous improvements means that every day we are moving closer to making the highest theoretical speeds a daily reality for our customers,” explained Sheikh Saud.
Ooredoo’s 4Gplus Network, which was launched in 2014 in key locations in Qatar, is the first and fastest 4Gplus network in Qatar, and has since been expanded to popular areas across the country, offering speeds of up to 225Mbps. The work on network expansion is ongoing as the company aims to cover the whole of Qatar by the end of this year.

‘Ready to bring ultra modern technology’

Ooredoo “stands ready” to bring the “latest and best” technology to Qatar, and will continue to enhance its “bigger, faster and better” network, said Sheikh Saud bin Nasser al-Thani, chief executive officer.
Commenting on the potential for 5G technology in Qatar, Sheikh Saud noted that Ooredoo has always been at the forefront of technological achievements. At the 2014 ITU Telecom World Conference in Doha, in collaboration with Nokia Networks and China Mobile, Ooredoo showcased a record-breaking speed of 4.1 Gbps over LTE.
“At this speed mobile and smart device users can download a full-length 5GB HD movie in just 11 seconds and simultaneously upload a 5-minute 30MB video clip from a concert in less than a second.
“5G technology is still in its infancy, but Ooredoo always stands ready to bring the latest and best technology to Qatar, and will continue to enhance our bigger, faster and better network,” Sheikh Saud added.
