Culture Minister meets Asean ambassadors

HE the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr Hamad bin Abdul Aziz al-Kuwari yesterday met the ambassadors of Asean countries led by Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam Nuruddin Ahmad.

The meeting was based on a request by the Asean ambassadors, who had expressed their desire to hold a joint cultural event in Doha. The officials discussed details of holding the event, which would reflect the strength of bilateral relations between Qatar and Asean countries. 

The ambassadors expressed their admiration of the cultural role Qatar plays abroad and its impact on relations between different countries.

 

Qatar to attend GCC exhibition

Qatar will participate in the 15th GCC Joint Exhibition which will be held in the UAE under the theme ‘Made in the GCC’ from May 26-30 at the Sharjah Expo Centre.

The Qatari pavilion will have more than 13 companies and will occupy an area of 1,000 square metres to showcase their various products in the industrial and commercial sectors, services and others.

Qatar will be represented by the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Finance, General Authority for Tourism and Qatar Chamber.

Qatar’s participation in this event aims to strengthen the process of co-operation between the GCC countries, especially on the economic and trade levels.

The exhibition, which will feature more than 200 exhibitors from the Gulf region, will focus on the sectors of industry, commerce, business, small and medium enterprises, construction, transportation and aviation

 

Doha-Wakrah road to be opened in September

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) will open the Doha-Wakrah road in September, local Arabic daily Al Sharq has reported.

The road will serve a large number of residents of both Doha and Wakrah and help ease traffic in both directions, the report states.

The contracting company has completed 90% of the project work, including paving the road and installing signboards.

The project will connect a number of areas and also include the provision of two fuel stations to serve motorists on either side, according to the report.

During a tour, the daily found that the executing company had reached the final stages of the vital project, the report adds.

 

Divorced women, widows should remarry: cleric

Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmed al-Buainain has said widows and divorced women should remarry but need to select the new husband carefully, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.

He said divorce and widowhood do not mean the end of life and divorce may be good if it means getting rid of evil and a woman being able to start a new life with another man even if she has children, the report states.

Sheikh al-Buainain told the daily that some widows and divorced women refuse to marry again as they have children and feel that they need to live for them only. However, he said marriage is a right that women should not be denied, according to the report.

 

Temporary health certificates for food sector staff

Starting from next week, the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) will start issuing temporary health certificates for the newly recruited workers in the food sector and those who fall in such a category after confirming their fitness.

The temporary health certificates will be valid for three months from the date of entering the country for those newly recruited workers. A valid residency permit would be a main requirement for acquiring a permanent health certificate.

 

Qatar-Lebanon ties reviewed

Lebanese Minister of Information Ramzy Greij met Ali bin Hamad al-Merri, Qatar’s ambassador to Lebanon.

They reviewed bilateral relations.

 

Cyprus minister meets Qatar envoy

Cypriot Defence Minister Christoforos Fokaidis yesterday met Qatar’s Ambassador to Nicosia Hussein bin Ahmed al-Humaid.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed relations between the two friendly countries and means of boosting and developing them.

 

Turkish deputy PM hails Qatar ties

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc yesterday met Qatar’s Ambassador to Turkey Salem Mubarak Shafi Salem al-Shafi in Ankara.

They discussed bilateral relations and means to enhance them. The Deputy prime minister praised the strength of bilateral relations between the two countries.

 

Qatar-Germany  sport ties discussed

Secretary of State in the German Federal Ministry of the Interior and the person in charge of Sports file Dr Ole Schroder yesterday met Qatar’s Ambassador to Germany Abdulrahman bin Mohamed al-Khulaifi at the Qatari Embassy in Berlin.

They discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the field of sports.

 

Real estate transactions

Transactions between May 11 and 15 for the real estate sales contracts registered at the Ministry of Justice are worth QR1,638,001,453, the real estate registration department at the Ministry said in its weekly report.

The list of properties that were traded by sale includes open plots of land, two floors villas, annex, houses and residential compounds, which are located in the municipalities of Umm Salal, Al Khor, Doha, Al Rayyan, Al Shamal, Al Daayen and Al Wakrah.
