A top US Chamber of Commerce official was in Doha to speak about foreign investment in the US at a talk at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in Qatar (GU-Q).
David Chavern, who is the executive vice president and chief operating officer for the world’s largest business federation, said the US Chamber of Commerce is globalist in perspective and supports foreign direct investment in the US.
“Qatar is a capital exporter,” Chavern said, adding: “The Qataris have money that they need to invest. Amongst policymakers and sophisticated business people there is an understanding that Qatar is a good partner.”
Chavern also spoke about the current economic situation in the US and explained some of the business challenges for the future.
He gave details of the potential role of the US in improving the world economy with possible advantages that can be gleaned from capital exporter nations investing in America.
“The chamber of commerce represents the interests of more than 3mn businesses and is the world’s largest business federation,” Jonathan Cartmell, GU-Q’s executive director, business development, said, adding: “We appreciate Chavern taking the time to share his insights with our students, especially as a significant number aspire for a career in international business and appreciate the opportunity to benefit from his strong hands-on
experience.”
A graduate of Georgetown University’s MBA programme, Chavern serves as chair of the chamber’s management committee and is responsible for day to day operations as well as long-term planning.
He also oversees corporate partnerships and small business outreach and membership.
