The three-day  international exhibition for cooling, heating, refrigeration, ventilation and insulation — CHRVI ME 2013 —  opened at the Doha Exhibition Centre yesterday.
The event, which concludes tomorrow, is the first-of-its-kind and  showcases  a wide range of air conditioning products and technologies relevant to Qatar and the GCC. These products previously used to be part of construction exhibitions.
Doha Municipality director Mohamed al-Sayed opened the exhibition in the presence of a number of businessmen, dignitaries and representatives of several diplomatic missions in Qatar.
Waleed Wahba, CEO of event organisers Heights Exhibitions and Conferences, said there would be a huge demand for cooling equipment in Qatar in the near future. “For example, the railway system will be a massive facility that needs to be completely cooled. Other massive scheduled projects will also require cooling, ventilation and related services. This factor has made a considerable number of local and international companies take part in the expo,” he explained.
During the expo, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) seminars will be held on all three days and registration is free. These will be attended by experts from Japan, India, Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan. The seminars conducted from 4pm to 9pm, will address specialised technical aspects of the industry. Wahba said around 2,500 participants have already registered for the seminars and said turnout is steadily rising. He also expected considerable business deals for the 75 participating companies from 14 countries.  “We have already received a good number of requests and some deals have already been sealed,” he said, indicating that the expo would be held annually.
Most exhibitors have sought to introduce their most sophisticated innovations with a focus on reducing energy consumption, improving the quality of air and adopting eco-friendly solutions to implement the ‘Vision’ of the country.
Mohamed el-Manzalawi, managing director of Primacool Trading and Contracting Company, said Qatar featured among the best markets in the region due to the construction boom, mentioning that the Doha office expected great deals soon.
Viraj Vartak, regional director of Toshiba airconditioning, said the company was introducing the Variable Refrigerant Flow technology in the country at the expo. This technology, he explained, would reduce energy consumption by around 35%.
Carrier has introduced the UVC system, whose primary aim is to provide healthy and hygienic air flow. Mohamed al-Qaisi, country manager, Carrier, said the company stresses sustainability and adopts eco-friendly measures.
Further, it also held two training workshops for those involved in the market in Qatar, to enhance their overall technical performance.
