Ooredoo, title sponsor of Workers Cup events

Ooredoo sponsorship analyst Manar Khalifa al-Muaikhi (L) and QSports chairman and founder Ghanim al-Mohannadi seal the deal yesterday.

Ooredoo – Qatar’s leading communications company – has officially been confirmed as the title sponsor for the Qatar Workers Cup 2013.

The Workers Cup programme which is delivered by QSports Leagues in strategic partnership with the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee forms an integral component of efforts to reach out and engage with all sections of the community in Qatar.

Ooredoo have confirmed that in their role as title sponsor they will be supporting the 2013 Workers Cups for basketball, cricket and volleyball.

Each tournament features a number of teams who play a series of group games before qualifying for the knock-out stages. The individual players participating in the tournament represent their companies who pay an entry fee of QR6,000 to be involved with the tournament – though the workers and participating players are not required to pay any of that amount. However the players then have the opportunity to win prizes with QR18,000 being awarded to the winning team, QR9,000 for the runners up and QR6,000 for third place. There are also additional prizes for individual players who have performed exceptionally well during the tournament.

 The cricket and basketball tournaments with 12 and 16 teams respectively have already started .

The quarter-finals of the basketball tournament will be held at Al Gharafa Sports Club – QBF Indoor Hall on Friday, commencing at 12:00 midday.

The semi-finals and final will be held at the same venue on Friday, May 31, commencing at 10:00am.

The quarter-finals of the cricket tournament will be held at Al Wakra Sports Club on Friday, May 24, with the first game commencing at 1pm. The semi-finals and final will be held at the same venue on Friday, May 31.

The volleyball tournament is scheduled to commence on June 7.
