HMC’s clinical leaders attended a high-level training programme to equip them with the skills needed to take the corporation into the next phase of its transformation. The training was part of HMC’s evolution towards becoming a clinician-led healthcare system, a model of care that ensures the entire organisation is focused on delivering the best possible care for each patient.Held in collaboration with Partners Healthcare, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Massachusetts General Physicians Organisation, the programme featured speakers from the organisations as well as the faculty from the Harvard Business School.Speaking at the event, HMC managing director Hanan al-Kuwari said the leadership training programme will support senior clinical leaders as they play a bigger role in strategic planning for the development of the organisation.“As we move along our journey of continuous improvement, we will be investing a lot of time in training, developing and nurturing our talent,” she said, adding: “At the forefront of this transformation will be our clinical leaders and we are working to give them the skills and tools to make this happen and ensure the safest, most effective care for our patients.”General Hospitals and Organisation Development chief Steve Phoenix said the senior clinical leaders programme is a tailor-made flagship course for HMC’s clinicians.“The best hospital in the US and the best business school in the world have worked with our team here at HMC to produce a programme specifically tailored to the unique challenges we face. We expect to run this programme each year so that our top clinical staff can be our best clinical leaders,” he said.Massachusetts General Physicians Organisation medical director Dr Timothy Ferris said he believed HMC is very well-positioned to become a clinician-led and patient-focused system. “In a clinician-led system, the patient comes first and this means that the entire system is focused on the best possible care of the patient,” Dr Ferris added.
