A technical seminar on ‘EXMotors and IEC Standards’ jointly hosted by the Qatar chapter of  The Institution of Engineers (India) and M/s ABB at Oryx Rotana Hotel recently.

Guest speakers from ABB made a detailed presentation on IEC standards, hazardous environments and area classification, standard in hazardous areas and main regulations, main concept on EX-protection modes, service requirements for EX equipment, selection and erection IEC60079 standards, etc.

Marcus Westerlund and Davidde Tacconi of ABB spoke on those issues requiring more attention of the service professionals.

Chief guest and ABB Oryx Motors and Generators general manager Amr A Kader recalled the work initiated by the engineers institution for the local society.

Institution chairman Debashish Roy, who welcomed the gathering, introduced the speakers and elaborated on the significance of the seminar.

He also spoke about the active role the Qatar chapter is playing in the professional development of its members.

Around 80 members attended the seminar.

Institution secretary Abdul Sathar compered the event and proposed a vote of thanks. KM Salihudeen conducted the proceedings of the event.

Since its inception, the Qatar chapter has rendered excellent professional services to the engineering community in Qatar for the past 22 years.

A major activity of the chapter is the conduct of regular technical seminars and workshops. It also promotes general advancement in engineering and technology, provides a platform for technical interaction for continuous professional development of the engineering community of Qatar.
