Oryx GTL recently hosted a group of senior chemical engineering students of Qatar University (QU) at its Ras Laffan facilities.

Eight students in two groups - four male and four female - received a warm reception from Oryx GTL personnel led by Hussain al-Shammari from the PRC department. A safety presentation was later made for the students, who were accompanied by Prof Farid Benyahia and Shaden Daghash during the visit, before they were taken on a guided tour of the facilities. The students are in the final stages of their capstone design project on gas-to-liquids. The objective of the guided tour - which was co-ordinated by Abdulaziz al-Mohannadi, a graduate of chemical engineering from Qatar University - was to acquaint the students with process equipment and plant operations in the GTL field, so that they could have a first-hand experience of how a GTL plant was operated.

On behalf of QU, Prof Benyahia - plant design instructor and former head of department -thanked Oryx GTL for its support to the university’s pupils and its contribution in training students and funding a wide range of educational schemes.

Oryx GTL also hosted a luncheon for the students. The students also received gifts before their departure.
