The Italian coastguard has grounded German migrant rescue ship Alan Kurdi at the port of Palermo, Sicily, after identifying ‘several irregularities.’
German NGO Sea-Eye said one of its vessels was threatened on Saturday by Libyan coast guards who fired warning shots as it rescued 90 migrants from a lifeboat.
Over 160 migrants were seeking a safe port Friday after two charity vessels that had rescued them found themselves banned from entering Italian territorial waters.
The migrant rescue boat Alan Kurdi has saved another 44 people, including women and infants from their stricken vessel in the Mediterranean, its operator German charity Sea-Eye said on Tuesday.
