Britain's Prince William on Thursday visited Jerusalem's al-Aqsa mosque compound and Judaism's Western Wall at the foot of the hilltop holy site at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The visit comes 70 years after British forces withdrew from the Holy Land leaving behind the divisions that remain to this day.
Prince William was welcomed at Marka airport in north-eastern Amman by Jordan's Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah.

Prince William and his wife Kate formally registered the birth of new son Louis on Tuesday, just over a week after the arrival of the latest member of Britain's royal family.
The name pays tribute to William's great-great uncle Louis Mountbatten, who was killed by the IRA in 1979, while Charles is the name of William's father.
The visit this summer by the second in line to the throne "is at the request of Her Majesty's government and has been welcomed by the Israeli, Jordanian and Palestinian authorities", the palace said in a statement.
Britain's Prince William and his wife Kate flew to Norway on the final leg of a Nordic trip on Thursday, and stepped out onto a red carpet laid out over a blanket of snow.
The four-year-old son of Prince William and Kate Middleton started last week at Thomas's Battersea, a private school in southwest London. The event was widely publicised in Britain and beyond.
