HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah, has attended the first event organised by the Qatar-Japan Friendship Fund.
The Qatar-Japan Friendship Fund is a $100mn fund presented by HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, under the direct supervision of HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, to the people of Japan for the rehabilitation of the people and the reconstruction of the regions affected by the earthquake which hit East Japan and claimed the lives of about 25,000 people.  
During his two-day visit to Japan the minister attended a working luncheon hosted in his honour by Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Ryuji Yamane who expressed deep gratitude to the government and people of Qatar for the assistance they provided for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the earthquake-hit areas.
The fund has arranged a  tourism trip for some 1,400 children from the primary and preparatory schools, with their respective families, from the earthquake-hit regions in  a bid to alleviate their suffering and help rehabilitate them.
The children visited a ski resort in Kyodo island in Northern Japan. They also visited zoos.       
The minister conferred with Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba who welcomed him and expressed his country’s deep gratitude and appreciation to Qataris for their donation to reconstruct quake-hit regions in East Japan. 
The two sides also discussed means of enhancing bilateral relations as part of the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of ties between them.
