QP officials at the press conference yesterday
The Qatar Petroleum will hold its first Occupational Health Conference “Towards a Healthier Workforce” on March 20-21, under the patronage of HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Affairs Dr Mohamed Saleh al-Sada, with the aim of promoting knowledge-sharing and collaborative action to further raise the standard of occupational health practice in the country.
The event, organised by the QP Medical Services department in co-operation with the Corporate HSE department, is expected to bring together some 200 occupational health experts and practitioners from the international arena, the region and within Qatar.
In a statement released at a press conference yesterday, al-Sada, who is also the QP chairman and managing director said: “This initiative is part of our comprehensive efforts to implement programmes and systems for safeguarding the health and ensuring the safety of all our employees as well as those of our joint venture partners and contractors.”
QP Medical Services director Dr Mahmoud A R al-Jaidah mentioned that by providing a platform for discussing laudable programmes and important issues related to occupational health, the conference will provide participants with opportunities to update themselves on the latest developments in the field that will allow them to gain new knowledge needed for to perform their duties as occupational health professionals.
The two-day event will focus on discussing best practices and innovative programmes as well as the burning and challenging issues related to effective health management in the workforce.
Other topics to be discussed at the conference will include: functional capacity assessment — new interventions and challenges; workplace health promotion programmes; aging offshore workers and impact on health and safety; cardiovascular disease burden in the workforce, focused case management and early return to work; role of fit note on sickness absence management; work-related stress in oil and gas companies; industrial hygiene challenges in oil and gas; and industrial hygiene regulatory framework and companies.
