Qatar Charity (QC) launched yesterday an interactive campaign to enhance ethical values among school students (girls and boys).
The campaign aims at sustaining positive conduct among Qatari youth towards society through interesting programmes that include competitions in theatre performance, art exhibition (posters), radio drama and YouTube short movies.
The campaign is sponsored by the Ministry of Social Affairs and conducted in collaboration with the Supreme Education
Council (SEC).
“The programme aims to contribute to the development of the behaviour of male and female students by directing their attention towards a number of selected values in each semester,” pointed out Mohamed bin Ali al-Ghamdi, QC executive director of local development.
“This also includes involving them in selected areas which are attractive, impressive, convincing, and consistent with their daily reality. The practice should include the practical participation of the students themselves, with freedom that achieves innovation, creativity and diversity in the work provided,” he added.
School students in the three educational stages are the main target audience. The programme is also expected to raise family dialogue on its themes because parents are considered the main source for instilling values within family members. Further, those working in the educational field are an essential source of values and a major part of the programme.
Beneficiaries include basic education institutions within the first three stages of education, youth, social, cultural and technical institutions and the various means of media.
The programme would be implemented through forming practical and positive attitudes towards the ethical values that has been long honoured within the society. They focus on community service, philanthropy, respect for others and hard work.
“To ensure the success of the programme and the achievement of the desired objectives, we were keen to follow a regulated academic and scientific method to measure the impact, through a prior and post questionnaire to measure the extent of the impact achieved on the target audience,” said Al-Ghamdi.
“Two behavioral questionnaires were prepared to evaluate the target values. The phrases of the two questionnaires were carefully selected, and field-tested on more than 400 male and female students in different schools. The field test of the questionnaire achieved good results, where the credibility of the measurement index was 94%,” he said.
Programme activities (separate programmes designed for boys and others for girls) would be concluded on May 15 with focus on the values of positive behaviour and responsibility.
Responsibility aims at strengthening the individual’s feeling of his importance and role towards his family, society and nation. Positive behaviour aims at promoting the spirit of entrepreneurship and self-motivation for positive change through the capacities of the individual.
The contests are allocated valuable prizes that amount to QR580,000 exclusive of the
programme funds.
QC chief executive officer Yousef Ahmed al- Kuwari, Assistant Deputy Minister for Social Affairs at the Ministry of Social Affairs Ahmed al-Nasr and curriculum expert at SEC Dr Abdulla al-Meri were among those present at the programme.
