Students taking part in community service programmes
The Qatar Centre for Voluntary Work (QCFVW) has prepared interactive programmes for school students to spend their earned hours for serving the community.
Yusuf Ali al-Kazim, secretary general of QCFVW, said: “We need to implant national feelings in the students through their participation in the society.”
He pointed out that during 2011, around 2,150 students have taken part in the activities and the number is expected to be up.
The programmes include awareness forums about the dangers of drugs and their damaging affects especially on the mental capabilities. Others were regarding Aids and its severe dangers. Students have also conducted field visits to some Aids patients at Hamad General Hospital where they got directly introduced to the complications of the disease and how to avoid
contacting it.
The activities included environment awareness and service as well. Some students preferred to take part in first aid training programmes, where they learned practically how to tackle emergencies.
Future programmes for students would include how to deal with electronic appliances and avoid the risks involved in overuse and misuse.
QCFVW also managed to practically engage students at political, sports and social conferences.
Al-Kazim affirmed that the students’ participation was positive and rewarding.
