One of the performances at the event at Qatar University
As part of a series of events to commemorate Qatar National Day, Qatar University (QU) has held its third annual National Day Festival.
The event was organised by QU student volunteers, in line with the ongoing campaign of volunteerism which encourages student involvement in events, programmes and projects that benefit the
community.
The spirit of pride, goodwill and diversity prevailed among the audience of over 300 people which included members of QU leadership, faculty, staff, QU and high school students, alumni, and members of the public.
QU president Prof Sheikha Abdulla al-Misnad told the audience that through this festival, QU is joining the rest of the country in celebrating a nation built on strong traditional and cultural values and which has been welcoming to people from many different cultures.
“It is a proud moment for us to organise this event for the third year. It is our civic responsibility and one of our annual priorities. As the only national institution for higher education, we at QU are taking the lead in promoting the principles and values that our National Day upholds and which are further stated in the Qatar National Vision and the National Development Strategy.”
She congratulated the volunteers for their hard work in planning and executing the event, saying, it demonstrates their commitment, strong sense of community and the leadership qualities.
The festival agenda included a number of cultural displays including a performance showcasing Qatar’s history, the stages of its progress and prosperity, such as oil exploration and education development, and leading to present-day Qatar of burgeoning economic and social  development.
QU students were joined by students from Al Israa Primary School for Girls and Omar Ibn Khataab Preparatory School for Boys during some of the performances.
