Al-Sulaiti shakes hands with al-Hadfa as Lusail Development CEO Mohamed Essa al-Kaladari looks on at the signing ceremony yesterday
Mowasalat has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Lusail Real Estate Development, promoted by Qatari Diar, to operate water taxis to connect different residential communities in the state-of-the-art integrated township, under construction.
Informing this yesterday at a joint briefing, Mowasalat chairman Jassim Saif al-Sulaiti said the transport company would operate the water taxis to connect different residential communities in the township.
Initially, it would be operated on an experimental basis and depending on the outcome of their operations, the company would decide whether to go a-head with their services or not, he said.
Even while acknowledging that operating water taxis would be a mounting challenge for Mowasalat, al-Sulaiti expressed the hope that the company would be able to handle the job in an effective manner.
The township’s work is fast progressing and the services of the water taxis would be available to its residents once the place is expected to be ready for the first phase of commissioning. The integrated township is expected to house as many as 200,000 residents when it is ready.
Initially, it would have residential as well as apartment accommodations for about 40,000 people, it is learnt. However, no dates were given yesterday for the commencing the water taxi operations.
Qatari Diar Group chief executive officer Mohamed bin Ali al-Hadfa, director of the Group CEO office Abdulla Mohamed al-Kuwari, Lusail Development chief executive officer Mohamed Essa al-Kaladari and Lusail Development administration manager Ibrahim al-Abdulla were among others present at the signing ceremony.
