The Premium Qatari Vegetables and Qatar Farms programmes achieved significant sales during the year 2020 compared to previous years.

The sales of Premium Qatari Vegetables reached 4,565 tonnes compared to 2,740 tonnes in 2019, an increase of about 66%, while the sales of Qatar Farms for the 2020 season were about 19,000 tonnes compared to 11,506 tonnes in 2019, an increase of about 64%.

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment launched these programmes in co-operation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to improve local marketing operations and help the farmers market their produce, as they provided the opportunity for the Qatari farmers to display their local production of high-quality vegetables with affordable prices for the consumer without an intermediary, nor paying the farmer any financial commissions in return.

The Premium Qatari Vegetable programme was launched in January 2017 with the participation of 16 farms in Al Meera complexes only. As a result of the success of the programme, it was launched in other consumer malls (such as LuLu Hypermarket, Carrefour and Family Food Centre) in December 2017 and the number of the participating farms has reached 150.

Launched in March 2018 with the participation of four major consumer malls (Al Meera, LuLu Hypermarket, Carrefour and Family Food Centre), the Qatar Farms programme achieved good sales during in the first season, amounting to about 1,969 tonnes of vegetables.
