The Cabinet has agreed on a draft law that criminalises any violation of safety specifications for workers' housing, in addition to increasing the punishment for employers who do not pay workers.
This came at the Cabinet's regular meeting chaired by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al-Thani through a video conference, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported Wednesday.
HE the Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr Issa bin Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi gave the details of the proceedings.
The above-mentioned draft law amends some provisions of Law No. 14 of 2004.
The amendment "comes in the framework of the State's commitment to increase regulation of health and safety requirements and specifications for workers' housing, and to enhance the protections for workers' financial rights", QNA said.
The Cabinet also approved a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) for co-operation in the field of health between the governments of Qatar and Ethiopia.
It also approved a multilateral MoU on consultation and exchanging information between the regulatory bodies of financial markets in Arab countries who are members of the Union of Arab Securities Authorities.
