The General Assembly Meeting of the Qatar Football Association (QFA) was held yesterday under the chairmanship of Saoud al-Mohannadi, Vice President of QFA.
Ahmed al-Buainain, Hani Ballan, Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad al-Thani and Abdul Rahman al-Qahtani, members of QFA’s Executive Committee, Mansoor al-Ansari, Secretary-General of the QFA, and the directors of departments of the Federation as well club members also attended the AGM.
At the beginning of the AGM, Al-Mohannadi conveyed the greetings of QFA President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani and his apology for not attending the meeting due to his presence on an official mission outside the country.
Al-Mohannadi also delivered a speech at the beginning of the meeting on behalf the QFA President saying all key matters were to be tabled and discussed.
“Qatar football has achieved distinguished successes in the past year due to the efforts of all parties in our football system and we seek your efforts to go for higher successes,” Al-Mohannadi said yesterday. “Our first team won the 2019 Asian Cup last year after high levels presented by the players and the technical and administrative bodies. Qatar will continue to aim higher in years to coming,” he added. “Our team also presented honourable levels in its first historic participation in the Copa America last year and achieved satisfactory results in front of teams that have a long history in football. Our youth footballs teams also did well and we are happy with our overall outlook,” he said.
“As for the clubs, the distinguished continental attendance of our clubs was not lost, in addition to the progress made by our Qatari teams in the Asian rankings, by restoring all the seats in the next edition of the AFC Champions League,” he said. Al-Mohannadi applauded Akram Afif winning the AFC Player of the Year award at the end of last year.
“Last year, FIFA gave hosting rights of the FIFA World Club Cup for two years. We saw the first edition held in December last year. We will host the second edition this year,” he added.
“This week Qatar hosted the second final of the African Super Cup, which is further evidence of the country’s successes in organizing top football events.
“There is no doubt that the 24th edition of the Gulf Cup, which was also held in Qatar, was also a huge success,” he said.
Al-Mohannadi said QFA continues to forge football relations with countries in Asia and other continents.
He lauded the presence of Qatari administrators at the AFC level.
