The Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday honoured the two winners of the Qatar Global Award for Dialogue Among Civilizations which is in its second edition.
The award is supervised by the Qatari Committee for the Alliance of Civilization in the Ministry, and ISESCO Chair in Alliance of Civilisations at the College of Shariah and Islamic Studies at Qatar University.
The honour came on the sidelines of Doha Forum 2019, where HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi, honoured each of the winner Dr Mohamed Ahmed Abdelsalam from Egypt, for his research entitled “The Impact of Muslim Migration on the Culture and Arts of the Far East” and the second winner Dr Bachir Khalafi from Algeria came for his research “Muslim immigrants in the West between identity requirements and the requirements of citizenship”.
On the occasion, President of Qatar University Dr Hassan bin Rashid al-Derham, in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), indicated that this annual award, which is sponsored by HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Qatar Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, in a short time, has achieved the distinction of participating at the international level, a depth in the method and scientific content, and an important influence in the field of civilised dialogue.
He said that the university is proud of the success achieved so far in the award, and the research and academic mobility it has brought about in the field of dialogue among civilisations, and the study of rapprochement between nations and peoples.
For his part, the Dean of the College of Shariah at Qatar University Dr Ibrahim Abdulla al-Ansari pointed out the scientific level reached by the awards researches for this year, and the topics that were addressed in its second and purposeful edition to deepening civilizational dialogue in line with the efforts of Qatar in this regard.
He pointed to the efforts of the College of Shariah in the field of civilisational dialogue, saying in this regard, that the College of Shariah and Islamic Studies at Qatar University has made great efforts, as an institution to enhance originality and document intellectual and practical trends and activate civilisation dialogue, to protect and enhance the Islamic identity and activate its effect in reality locally and globally.   
The two winners praised the efforts of Qatar in the field of activating dialogue between civilisations and launching qualitative initiatives at various diplomatic, humanitarian, civilisational and cultural levels, which made it an example to be followed in these fields.   
Dr Mohamed Ahmed Abdelsalam, the first place winner, said in a statement to QNA that this award is the most important for him, being from Qatar and because it is the first after obtaining a doctorate.   
He said the award reflects the role of Qatar and its active presence in all political, cultural, civilisational and educational fields.
In a similar statement, the award’s second winner, Dr Bachir Khalafi, thanked the organisers of this award reflects the high standards followed in the evaluation.
