The countdown for the 27th edition of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open, to be held at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha from December 31 to January 5 has begun. The ATP World Tour 250 series tournament will attract a host of the world’s top players including World No 1 Novak Djokovic, a two-time-champion, as well as No 8 Dominic Thiem, Nikolov Basilashvili,  David Goffin, Karen Khachanov and this year’s French Open semi-finalist Marco Cecchinato.
The tournament, which has featured some of the biggest name in tennis down the years, is seen as the curtain raiser for the ATP tour. The event picked up the prestigious ATP 250 Tournament of the Year in 2017 for the second time, having won it also in 2015.
Meanwhile, the tournament’s draw ceremony will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel, Doha by 6pm on December 29. “We are more than ready to host the best so far in the tournament’s history, the best in the 250 points category in terms of player rankings and level of organization.” said Tareq Zainal, General Coordinator of the tournament.  “We’ve promised ourselves to keep raising the bar each year and we are totally committed to fulfilling that promise come what may. The fans are in for a tremendous week-long fiesta of tennis,” he added.
“We are excited once again to welcome the world to Doha as we host a special competition. Once again, fans will have another opportunity of watching the world’s best players play live during this week-long festival of tennis. We are looking forward to seeing the fans troop out in large numbers to enjoy this amazing experience,” said Tournament Director Karim Alami.
