Qatar's population showed a 4.5% rise on August 31 compared to the figures recorded at the end of the previous month, the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) announced Monday.

The rise is apparently owing to the return of a considerably large number of residents from vacation. The population rose to 2,561,643 at the end of last month, from the year's low of 2,450,285, recorded on July 31.
Usually in the three months between June 1 and August 31, the country's population shows a decline.
However, the latest population figure is almost 117,000 lower than the highest of 2,731, 910, recorded in May. The August figure is 4.7% more than the population of the corresponding period last year (2,446, 328, August 2017), it is learnt.
As per the August figures, there were 1,931,077 males and 630,566 females in the country, while in July they were 1903,888 and 546,397 respectively.
The highest monthly population figure for women in the country was in May, 2018, when there were 697,899 females (which was 25.54% of the population of that month). If the trend continues, the female population may exceed the 700,000-mark for the first time before the end of the year.
Last year's highest population was recorded in November, when the ministry released figures of 2,682,596, which included 672,579 females (25.07%).
It is expected that the population will shoot up in the next two months as usual and the year's highest may be recorded when the November figures are released.
