At least nine Afghan army soldiers were killed after Taliban militants attacked their checkpoints in northern Kunduz province, officials say.

Dozens of others were injured in the attacks on at least two checkposts in Imam Saheb district of the province, provincial council member Mohmmad Yousif Ayoubi said.
The militants launched the attacks late Monday from at least five directions and they lasted throughout the night, according to another provincial council member, Aminullah Ayeddin.
