Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) will hold its next concert Brahms’ Second Symphony at Qatar National Convention Centre Auditorium 3 on May 5 (tomorrow) at 7:30pm. The concert will be conducted by Gianluigi Gelmetti. Anton Pavlovskiy, will play cello at the concert.
Gianluigi Gelmetti is one of today’s most prestigious conductors. Since his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Italian conductor, pupil of Sergiu Celibidache, Franco Ferrara and Hans Swarowski, regularly appears on the podium of the world’s most important opera houses and festivals.
He was principal conductor of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra for ten years and music director of the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome from 2000 to 2009. Since 2004, he has been principal conductor and artistic director of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. He also regularly works at the Monte Carlo Opera and the Royal Opera house in Covent Garden.
Cellist in the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, Anton Pavlovsky has been a veteran member at leading positions in many reputable orchestras in Russia such as the Russian National Orchestra, National Philharmonic of Russia and Svetlanov State Symphony, appearing in major concert halls of Moscow and in the Netherlands, Germany, UK, Switzerland, France, Belgium and Norway.
Pavlovsky was born in 1985 in Ufa, Russia. He graduated from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and completed his postgraduate studies under Natalia Shahovskaya. In addition, he had the privilege to work with such eminent artistes as Mstislav Rostropovich, Daniel Shafran, Mikhail Khomitser, David Geringas, Lluis Claret and Eberhard Finke.
