Qatar Rail is participating in the third Government Procurement and Contracting Conference and Exhibition (Moushtarayat 2018), which opened yesterday at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre.
The three-day event is held under the  patronage of HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani.
Moushtarayat 2018 aims to support small and medium enterprises by ushering in a wave of new opportunities in a wide range of public tenders, publicly announced throughout the year.
Qatar Rail’s participation in the event cements its commitment to support the private sector, as well as small and medium enterprises by providing them with opportunities to take part in the landmark projects undertaken by the company.
Qatar Rail will share opportunities for service providers in various industries such as information technology, marketing, advertising, civil engineering, contracting, transport and storage to engage local suppliers and SMEs.
Commenting on Qatar Rail’s participation in the conference, managing director and CEO Abdulla al-Subaie, said: “Involving the private sector in our projects is on top of our priorities. We always look forward to providing opportunities in particular for small and medium enterprises to help them to contribute on both the corporate and the projects levels. Events such as Moushtarayat provide an ideal platform to communicate with those companies and to share with them the company’s various needs and help them better understand the vendor selection criteria and procurement processes to increase their chances in getting awarded. We are looking forward to increase their participation in the projects and providing all the support we can to help them acquire a bigger share of the business opportunities and contract opportunities we provide.”
The participation of local companies in the Qatar Rail projects has reached a record 80%. Qatar Rail has actively sought to encourage local companies to take part in its international joint ventures to fast-track the development of the local construction and railways business.
In addition, Qatar Rail’s agreements with international companies require that they partner with Qatari companies in subcontracts. As a result, 1,998 subcontracts or 84% of all subcontracts, have been awarded to Qatari companies. Qatar Rail periodically hosts industry awareness events to introduce new business opportunities and engage local suppliers and companies to boost their participation in the companies’ tenders.
