The British Food Festival is currently under way at all LuLu Hypermarket outlets in the country. The festival showcases well-known British branded foodstuffs as well as new ranges, LuLu Group has said in a statement. The festival’s inauguration took place recently at LuLu Hypermarket - Al Messila, Bin Omran, and was officiated by British ambassador Ajay Sharma.
Qatar British Business Forum (QBBF) chairman Emad Turkman and British Chamber of Commerce managing director Peter Cook joined the ribbon-cutting ceremony along with a host of other officials and dignitaries from the British embassy’s Department for International Trade/Invest Northern Ireland as well as QBBF officials from all areas of business in Qatar.
Since the opening of LuLu Group’s export logistics warehouse in Birmingham in 2013, offering a wide range of “best-quality products” from across the UK, the export business has increased 10-fold, the statement notes. During the ambassador’s speech at the opening of the festival, it was noted that Y International (UK) Ltd, a subsidiary of the billion-pound retail giant LuLu Group International, is investing a further £15mn into a new 160,000sq ft European headquarters in Birmingham’s Advanced Manufacturing Hub. This will create a further 80 jobs, taking the total workforce to 240.
He noted that on top of past investments in UK hospitality, Twenty14 Holdings Group — part of LuLu Group International — recently purchased the iconic Caledonian Hotel in Edinburgh, Scotland for £82mn. The hotel is set on the prominent Princes Avenue and is steeped in history.
Turkman spoke on the strong membership links between LuLu and QBBF with both parties supporting each other to forge greater business links. Members of the Doha Jazz performed live during the opening ceremony. Dignitaries and customers had the opportunity to view several well-known attractions and enjoy past and present iconic films and music associated with the monarch and history of the UK.
The festival ends tomorrow.
