Pakistani authorities have asked Christians in Quetta to stay indoors after the second deadly attack against the community in less than a month.
“We have been asked to stay indoors because of threats,” Simon Bashir, a priest at Bethel Memorial Methodist Church in Quetta, told DPA yesterday, adding that his community is not satisfied with the security response.
At least two members of the community were killed and three others injured late on Sunday when gunmen opened fire in Isa Nagri, a Christian neighbourhood in Quetta city.
Four members of the community were killed in a similar attack on Easter Monday.
The Islamic State (IS) militant group claimed responsibility for both.
“We provide security to all the churches and police parties patrol Christian neighbourhoods for their security,” Quetta police official Muhammad Zubair said.
In December, eight people were killed and more than 30 others injured when IS militants attacked Bethel Memorial Methodist Church in Quetta.
Quetta is the capital city of the restive province of Baluchistan, which shares borders with both Iran and Afghanistan.
