Tottenham Hotspur must build a winning culture in major competitions like the Premier League and Champions League to develop as a club rather than focusing on domestic cup competitions, manager Mauricio Pochettino has said.
The north London side booked an FA Cup semi-final spot by beating Swansea City 3-0 in the quarter-finals on Saturday. “I never said that it’s not important to win this competition,” Pochettino said. “This type of competition is about enjoying the process and about enjoying when you lift the trophy, but it’s not going to give a different level or status as winning the Premier League or the Champions League to put the club on a higher level. For me, when you are consistently winning in the Premier League or the best competition in the world like the Champions League, that helps you to create (a winning mentality).”
Tottenham breezed past Swansea set up a semi-final against Manchester United next month. Tottenham are fourth in the league, four points adrift of second-placed United, and travel to fifth-placed Chelsea, who are five points behind them, on April 1.

One trophy not good enough for Man United, says Matic
Manchester United cannot consider their current season to be a successful one even if they win the FA Cup, midfielder Nemanja Matic has said. United’s 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday kept alive their only realistic chance of winning a trophy this season after their exit from the Champions League last week. Rivals Manchester City  are firm favourites to win the Premier League title this campaign as second-placed United lie 16 points behind their neighbours with eight matches left to be played. “You have four competitions in the season — if you win one for me it is not enough, but you always have to do your best,” Matic said.
“In the Premier League, when you are in the first four this is not perfect but is good to play for the Champions League next season. If you win the FA Cup I cannot say it is a successful season, but it’s a good season.”
Manager Jose Mourinho’s team were also knocked out of the League Cup quarter-finals after a shock defeat by Championship (second tier) side Bristol City. After the win over Brighton, Mourinho hailed Matic as “an island of personality, desire and control” while criticising others for a lacklustre showing. After the conclusion of the international break, United host Swansea City in the league on March 31 before taking on Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-finals next month.

Brazil to use Tottenham’s facilities ahead of World Cup
Brazil have signed an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to use the London Premier League club’s facilities ahead of this year’s World Cup in Russia, the Brazilian Football Confederation said.  The five-times World Cup winners will train in London for friendlies against Croatia on June 3, at an English venue yet to be decided, and Austria on June 10 in Vienna. Brazil kick off their World Cup campaign against Switzerland on June 17 before facing Costa Rica and Serbia.
