Vanessa Trump filed for divorce from US President Donald Trump’s eldest son in a Manhattan court on Thursday, according to US media.
The 40-year-old is seeking an uncontested divorce to end her 12-year marriage with Donald Trump Jr, the New York Times reported.
“After 12 years of marriage, we have decided to go our separate ways,” the couple said in a joint statement. “We will always have tremendous respect for each other and our families.”
“We have five beautiful children together and they remain our top priority. We ask for your privacy during this time,” the statement added.
The couple, who have five children, were introduced to each other by the president at a 2003 fashion show.
They married in 2005 at Mar-a-Lago, the Trump family’s club in Florida’s Palm Beach.
Donald Trump Jr, 40, has been leading the Trump Organisation’s businesses with his brother Eric, 34, since their father entered office.
Last month, Vanessa Trump was taken to hospital when she told police she had been exposed to white powder while opening an envelope addressed to her husband.
There was no indication she suffered any injuries.
