Katara - Cultural Village Foundation has announced that the turnout at the Katara Arab Novel Prize this year marked a significant increase in the number of participants with a total of 1,283 contestants.
General Manager of Katara Dr Khalid al-Sulaiti said that the number of participating published novels this year is 562, while unpublished participating novels were 596 with another 47 in the unpublished studies category.
Moreover, 78 participants are contesting in the category of unpublished novels by young writers.
Dr al-Sulaiti added that female participants reached 322 this year whereas there were 961 men participants.
Regarding origins of the participant novelists, Dr al-Sulaiti said that most of the participants were from the Levant (Syria-Jordan-Lebanon-Palestine) and Iraq with a total of 413 novelists.
Egypt and Sudan came next with 383 participants followed by North African countries with 365 participants, while GCC countries also marked a significant turnout this year with 118 participants and four others from different non-Arab countries.
