Second edition of the Katara Aquathlon, a swim-run multisport activity, was organised by Mad Triathlon at the Katara Cultural Village on the 2018 National Sport Day last week.
The event, which was organised with the support of Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation through its Board member Dr Nasser al-Mohannadi, took place at the Beach Area of Katara Cultural Village.
The competition saw participants categorised as nationals, open male, open female and teams.
The organisers extended race lengths for this year. A fresh 700m open water swim in the clear, crisp blue waters of the Arabian Gulf and 4km run around the vibrant Katara Cultural Village gave the participants a new challenge to experience and enjoy along with cheering spectators, friends and family.
The athletes enjoyed encouraging water conditions and weather temperatures, allowing them to perform their best. Those who completed the event received finishers’ T-shirts and freebies, awards and gifts from the event sponsors.
Mad Triathlon, which was established as a consultation hub for beginner triathletes, caters to all nationalities, gender, age groups and fitness levels. It aims to help people transform their stagnant lifestyles by participating in endurance sports and provide a fun, healthy, and social atmosphere for members to pursue their individual development goals in the sport of triathlon.
Besides hosting triathlon and aquathlon events, the group holds regular training sessions for swimming, cycling and running.
The organisers thanked their volunteers and sponsors, including Finis, Sports Castle, Sharq Village & Spa, Haidari Trading, McDonalds, Oriental Trading Company (OTC), Jannah Water, Al Meera and Alankar Gifts, for their contribution to the success of the Aquathlon.
