In line with its efforts to support the spirit of Qatar’s National Sport Day, Alfardan Group held its seventh annual company-wide Sport Day event at Aspire Ladies Sports Hall yesterday.
More than 1,500 employees from various business units participated in the event, reflecting the Group’s “support for the country’s strategic efforts in positioning itself as one of the world’s premier sporting hubs.” “The initiative also underscores its support for the wise leadership of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani in promoting sports and fitness, and adopting healthy lifestyles among citizens and residents of Qatar.
“In addition, the 2018 edition of Sport Day highlighted the importance of camaraderie, co-operation and team spirit for continued personal and professional growth,” the Group said in a statement.
Several preliminary rounds of competitions were held prior to the final rounds at Aspire Ladies Sports Hall, where teams and individuals competed in volleyball and basketball matches at the Arab International Academy. An initial round of table tennis was held at Alfardan Gardens in addition to football and cricket games held as part of the annual sports event.
Ali Alfardan, vice-chairman of Alfardan Group, said: “The 2018 edition of the Sport Day was held to reiterate our support for the pioneering initiative launched by His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. The event was successful in bringing together employees from different divisions and showcased their competitiveness, excellence and talent. We aim to promote awareness on the importance of physical fitness among our employees with this initiative.”
Fahad Alfardan, board member of Alfardan Group, added: “One of the most effective ways to raise awareness on the adoption of healthy lifestyles is by engaging employees in physical activities such as sports. It is one of the top agendas of the Qatar government, under the leadership of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to develop a healthy workforce. By organising Sport Day, we aim to boost this commitment and reaffirm Alfardan Group’s support for Qatar’s vision of a healthy working environment and community.”
Omar Alfardan, president and CEO of Alfardan Group, concluded: “The idea of Sport Day was integrated into our CSR agenda in support of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, and his National Sport Day initiative. We constantly encourage our employees to strive for physical well-being, which plays an important role in their performance on both professional and personal fronts, in line with the Human Development Pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030. Alfardan Group’s management, employees and their families displayed their team spirit and sportsmanship once again at Aspire Ladies Sports Hall, encouraging us to continue hosting the event every year.”
In addition to sports and games, many recreational activities were organised as part of the Sport Day for people of all ages, “ensuring a memorable experience for everyone”, the statement noted. These included bouncy castles and game booths, further encouraging the integration of physical activities and exercise in daily routines.
