Qatar is a melting pot for music, noted a renowned German pianist who will be performing with Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) at the Katara Opera House on Saturday evening.
“One thing that strikes about Qatar is that it is a melting pot for music as people from different nationalities converge to listen to music. Even the members of the orchestra are from different countries which gives a wonderful feeling,” Christopher Park told Gulf Times on Friday.
“ I will be playing Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s concerto No 27 in B Flat Major. It is the last piece of Mozart and will be a wonderful piano concert. It is a very special one as it is soothing, peaceful, pure and simple in a positive way. Though it is very simple for the audience, it is a hard piece to play,” explained Park.
“Mozart has several levels of compositions and he developed more and more complicated pieces. However, No 27 is very simple. The concert will be for more than half an hour. It is a long piece and consists of three movements. I prefer to play Mozart as he is very special one to me,” noted the pianist.
Park, who started his music journey at the at the age of seven, has been following music for the last 23 years. Park began his lessons with Russian music in Frankfurt and then turned to German music.
According to a QPO official, the concert is fully sold out. “The Opera House can accommodate about 500 guests and it is fully sold out. The audience comprises nationals and expatriates and they are all eager to listen to the concert,” the official said.
Park, who is on his third visit to Qatar, said that he would find more time in the future to interact with music students in the country.
He pointed out, “There is a special love for music in the country. I have also visited the music schools in the country and maybe I can do some projects with the children in the schools next year. For me, there is no drawing line for various genres of music. I treat all types of music in the same fashion and for me there is only good music and bad music irrespective of different types of music.”
According to the pianist, music is an art and every piece of music has a particular message. “It is important to deliver the emotional message in the music. It does not need to be perfect all the time. Sometimes, there could be errors in the music and there are so many mistakes in the compositions of many great musicians. The message that it conveys is the most important aspect in music,” added Park.
