Large crowds enjoyed a range of fun, educational and cultural activities at Qatar Foundation’s (QF)'s Our Heritage event recently.
The day-long event, held at QF’s Ceremonial Court and Green Spine area in Education City, provided the public with an insight into local traditions and values.
Some of the offerings included Qatari board games, calligraphy activities, pearl extraction demonstrations, arts and crafts stalls, and falcon presentations.
“This is a wonderful celebration of our nation’s culture and heritage, and we are delighted to see so many members of the wider community come out and join us in Education City,” said Rodha al-Saadi from the community engagement team at QF.
“Our Heritage is part of our community-inspired events calendar, which has been specially designed to highlight Qatar’s rich history and help preserve and promote local traditions among the public. Community development is at the heart of everything we do here, and we’re dedicated to promoting cultural understanding and fostering social engagement through our many different initiatives,” al-Saadi noted.
Additionally, a number of QF centres participated in the event, including the Qur’anic Botanic Garden (QBG), Qatar Nanny Training Academy, the Equine Veterinary Medical Centre (EVMC), Al Shaqab, QatarDebate, the Education City Mosque and Qatar Music Academy, and they each hosted booths designed to introduce the public to their work in the community.
EVMC had ponies and Arabian horses on display to explain proper horse care, while the QBG showcased a plant exhibition and organised a range of activities for children as part of its innovative Fun & Learn campaign.
Neema, a mother who visited the Our Heritage event, said: “My son Imran, who is four years old, is having a lot of fun. He’s created two masks. I think the activities on offer are very engaging. I would definitely come back and visit if this event takes place again.”
