Qatar Postal Services Company (Qatar Post) officially launched its new e-commerce platform - The Turkish Souq (www.turkishsouq.qa) at an impressive ceremony at the Mondrian Hotel in Doha yesterday.
The event was attended by HE the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti, Qatar Post chairman and managing director Faleh al-Naemi, managing director of Turkish Post (PTT) Kenan Bozgeyik, Turkish ambassador Fikret Ozer and other dignitaries.
The online platform, which is a product of the partnership between Qatar Post and Turkey Post, will provide access to up to 5mn Turkish products ranging from clothing, shoes and accessories as well as vehicle parts and everything in-between, all at a flat delivery rate of QR50.
“I’m delighted to launch this platform which is set to revolutionise e-commerce in Qatar,” al-Sulaiti said.
“The depth of Qatari-Turkish bilateral relations and constructive co-operation in the fields of post, transport, ports, and aviation, whose foundations were laid by His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Turkish President Recep Erdogan cannot be overemphasised,” the Minister said.
“This platform will further strengthen the level of trade between the two countries and greatly enhance the fraternal relationship between the brotherly countries,” he added.
Al-Naemi said: “Two years ago, we launched our Connected service allowing our people to shop in the US and UK. Today, we are launching our latest e-commerce service, Turkish Souq. From today our citizens can take advantage of all the good work PTT have done and purchase quality products from trusted Turkish merchants and have them shipped to their doorstep by Qatar Post. And you can do it all from the comfort of your office, home or beach! Imagine you can visit the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul without leaving Doha.”
“This is the first phase of our co-operation. Later we will offer reciprocal services allowing Qatari e-commerce companies to sell their products in Turkey. Qatar Post is at the heart of these exciting developments and we are delivering modern life to Qatar.”
Speaking via a video call at the event, Ahmet Arslan, Turkish Minister of Transport, Marine Affairs and Communications, expressed delight at the successful launch of the platform as well as the fraternal relationship between the two countries.
“The relationship between Qatar and Turkey has gone a long way and the two brotherly countries are partners in progress. It is my great pleasure to witness the launch of yet another platform for bilateral trade relationship between the two countries. Without any doubt, the platform will greatly enhance trade and give access to products at cheaper rates to the consumers in Qatar,” he said. Page 3
