The Bangladesh embassy observed the 47th anniversary of Bangladesh's Victory Day on Saturday.

The occasion was marked with due reverence and solemnity, the embassy said in a press statement.
The embassy chalked out a day-long programme that included the hoisting of the national flag, a discussion meeting, and a cultural evening.
The programme began with the hoisting of the national flag by ambassador Ashud Ahmed on the mission's premises in the presence of embassy officials and a good number of Bangladesh nationals.
After that, a prayer was offered for eternal peace of the departed souls of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and martyrs of the Liberation War as well as for the continued peace and progress of the country, the statement noted.
A discussion meeting on the significance of the day was arranged on the embassy premises in the morning.
At the beginning, a minute’s silence was held as a mark of respect for the martyrs of the Liberation War.
Messages from the Bangladesh president, the prime minister, and the foreign minister were read out on the occasion.
During the discussion meeting, the speakers highlighted the contributions by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the martyrs and the freedom fighters in achieving their long-sought independence.
In his speech, the ambassador recalled the extraordinary role played by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the freedom fighters in Bangladesh's emergence as an independent country.
"As we rejoice in the memory of the Victory Day, we pay homage to all our freedom fighters," he added.
Ahmed thanked Bangladeshis in Qatar for their hard work and contributions towards nation-building through economic development.
As part of the day-long programme, a cultural evening was arranged at Bangladesh MHM School & College, Doha, under the supervision of the mission.
The ambassador inaugurated the event, and students of Bangladesh MHM School & College performed at the cultural function.
Hundreds of Bangladesh community members from Doha, Al Khor, Wakrah, Dukhan, and other places attended.
