The most shocking part about the blockade of Qatar was that it was imposed by Muslim rulers in the holy month of Ramadan on an Islamic country, social worker Ibrahim Miya told Qatar Urdu Radio’s live show Haqeeqat yesterday.
“Among the blockading countries, Saudi Arabia has a very special place in the Muslim world because it is home of the two Holy Mosques in Makkah and Madinah. As representatives of Islam, people expect the rulers to show compassion and fairness,” Miya explained.
“They shut the air, land and space routes of Qatar and this could have stopped the food supply for all intended purposes had Qatar not taken quick pragmatic decisions,” he added.
The fact that the siege was imposed in the month of Ramadan shows how little blockading countries cared about Islamic values, Miya stated.
“It was sad to see Muslims trying to cause harm to their brothers because the cruel measures they adopted during the siege go against all the basic principles and teachings of Islam.”
Haqeeqat, which aims to engage and interact with the large South Asian expatriate community in Qatar, is a joint venture of the Gulf Times and Qatar Media Corporation Urdu Radio. It is broadcast from Sunday to Thursday on FM107.
