His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani yesterday issued Emiri Decision No 19 of 2017 on reorganising the Community College of Qatar (CCQ). 
The Emiri Decision aims to bring the CCQ on par with the other higher educational institutions in the country. The CCQ will grant bachelor’s degree and introduce new specialties that serve the labour market.
The Emiri Decision introduced the CCQ, with its headquarters in Doha, as an independent academic institution for university, academic, technical and applied education, and as a legal entity with a budget annexed to the general budget of the State.
Other branches of the college may be established with a decision from the board of trustees and based on a recommendation from the college’s president.
The CCQ aims to prepare technically specialised personnel that are academically and scientifically trained in specialties that meet the society and the labour market’s needs.
The college also aims to prepare its graduates with associate diploma degrees to be qualified to undertake bachelor’s degree at the college or at different universities, as well as prepare graduates with bachelor’s degrees to enter the labour market.
The college also aims to introduce continuing education programmes and applied programmes depending on the needs of the public and private sectors.
A board of trustees will manage the college. It will comprise of a head, a deputy head who shall replace the head in his absence or in case of a vacancy, not less than five or more than seven members.
A decision by the Prime Minister shall be issued upon the proposal of the Minister of Education and Higher Education for assigning the members and their salaries.
The college will have a president, board of academic staff members, an academic council headed by the dean of the college, assistant deans, members, heads of departments and programmes of the faculty and a number of professors, as well as student representatives chosen according to the rules of the college.
