The construction of Muaither Centre for Health and Wellness, a state-of-the-art four-level complex, has been completed and is in the process of being handed over to the country's health authorities.

This was announced by Ashghal authorities during a media tour of the new facility, located on the southern side of Muaither, alongside the road to Sailiyah.

The design of the nearly 19,700sqm building is based on the local traditions and heritage, incorporating all best features required for a facility of its kind.

The new wellness centre comes in the `C' Type which is the best among such facilities.While the ground and upper levels of the clinic, which Ashghal authorities described as an architectural model for community health and wellness, feature a spacious lobby, an array of clinics, laboratories, administrative offices and their annexes and other facilities, the two-level basement car park would accommodate 376 vehicles at one time. In the centre compound, there is shaded parking facility for no less than 100 cars.

Briefing journalists, the centre's project in charge (from Ashghal) engineer Ahmed Saleh said the complex incorporates 45 clinics, including 10 rooms for dentistry, six chambers for family and pre-marriage tests along with other medical specialised services for emergency, physiotherapy clinic with a lounge, sports hall, sauna and massage.

One of the unique attractions of the facility is a top class swimming pool, spread over an area of approximately 375sqm, involving changing rooms and bathrooms.

In addition, there is a multi-purpose meeting hall, library, a radiology section, a lab and a pharmacy too in the complex.

The complex has four main entrances, ambulances and emergency department. It also has a mosque each for gents and ladies.

Engineer Tamadar al-Malki, acting head of Health Projects Section (Ashghal Building Affairs department) said the authority carried out the construction of the complex, meeting the local and international standards and specifications, achieving 3.5 million man-hour free of injury.

She also informed that the health centres of Al Waab, Al Wajba and Al Jameaa (near Qatar University) were nearing completion and would be ready before the end of the year.

“Ashghal is implementing three accredited designs in harmony with the demography of Qatar, " said al-Malki who also informed the Type A has a few clinics in such less populated areas as Al Karaana and Leghwiriya.

The Type B is more bigger and designed for community health like those in Al Thumama on the southern side of the city.

"The Type `C' is the biggest and intended for health and wellness since it features rehabilitation and sport services like those at the centres of Leabib and Rawdat Al Khail," said al-Malki who also added that new Type `C' clinics and wellness centres would be launched in Al Khor and Al Shamal shortly.

“The health centres in Al Waab and Al Jameaa, where works are in full swing are Type B, whereas besides the Muaither clinic, the one set to be opened shortly in Al Wajba are Type C, " she said while adding that the clinics in Al Waab, Al Jameaa and Al Wajba are in the final stages of handing over to the health authorities.

"The bottom line is that the building is expandable and upgradable in the future according to the updated medical equipment, ” said Al Malki.

Speaking to journalists during a tour of the Muaither complex, engineer Saleh said “all criteria were set by Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) and architectural considerations taken to accomplish a 3-star environmental level in terms of energy saving and environment preservation."

This included using solar energy for in-house water heating, natural sunlight through panoramic roof windows to save power used for lighting and disinfecting. Such facilities would ensure rational consumption of water inside and outside the complex.

In coming days, more green areas and landscapes would be provided around the facility, he said.

The engineer also informed that Ashghal has won two Sustainability Awards (2016) in health and education facilities, organised by the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (Gord).

The Gord instituted the the first performance-based system in the Mena region for rating the green buildings and infrastructures.

Saleh also recalled Ashghal won the prizes for adopting 3-star GSAS in all health and educational facilities, including the design and construction of hospitals, clinics, primary healthcare centres and schools and kindergartens”.
