Saif Ali Khan’s career might be in some trouble now. Chef, his latest movie, has tanked at the box office. But it is not the fact that the movie flopped which should worry him but how badly it flopped.
Chef had decent reviews from critics and even the ordinary public who saw it in the theatre came away liking it even if the general opinion was it was a bit slow. But what has shocked box office analysts is that the first week collections of the movie did not even touch Rs10 crore. In fact it ended somewhere in the Rs6-7 crore range.
Contrast that with the Varun Dhawan starrer Judwaa 2 that released the earlier Friday and raked in more than Rs90 crore in the first week. What such abysmal numbers mean for a movie that no one thought was terrible is that Saif’s star power to attract an initial audience might be seriously dented. If the star cannot guarantee an audience then what would be the point of having him as the lead actor? And Chef‘s fate comes on the back of a number of flops of Saif. If he has to get back into the game, he needs to pull a big one fast and that does seem like a long shot at the moment.
