There has been much debate about nepotism in Bollywood over the last few months and while the star kids might defend the idea of their own merit because the ultimate arbiter is the audience, you just have to turn to the example of Bobby Deol to appreciate that might not be entirely correct.
Deol has just had a big flop in Poster Boys. And for years he has not been finding much work to the point that he did confessional interviews about how hard his plight was. While that might indicate that nepotism does not work as much as it is touted in Bollywood, Bobby has just landed a role in Race 3,the super hit franchise which will be even more lucrative this time because it has Salman Khan in the lead.
He announced it on Twitter, ‘Let’s race along @RameshTaurani ... it feels great to be a part of the team!!’ This was in response to Taurani, its producer, welcoming Bobby into the movie with a tweet. What being from a big movie dynasty does is it gives endless opportunities to its members, which is how those like Bobby and Abhishek Bachchan continue to survive for decades. If they had not been the sons of Dharmendra or Amitabh Bachchan, then chances are their days of appearing in movies would have long been over by now.
