Huawei and Microsoft have signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Cloud Service under which Microsoft applications will be released on Huawei Cloud.

The MoU was inked at Huawei Connect 2017, Huawei's flagship event for the global ICT industry.

Under the agreement, the two companies ‘will initiate in-depth co-operation on the public cloud to provide the optimal experience of cloud services for enterprises and help enterprises implement digital transformation,’ Huawei has explained in a press statement issued in Doha.

Huawei and Microsoft already enjoy a ‘time-honoured and deepening co-operation’ in the field of cloud computing as the Huawei Cloud has provided Windows Server and RDS for SQL Server. Through this new strategic co-operation, Huawei and Microsoft will bring more Microsoft enterprise-level products online.

‘Joint innovation by the two parties provides customers with trusted hosting and various enterprise applications as a service. Facing promising prospects in the global market, both companies will jointly carry out market expansion and marketing activities on schedule,’ the statement notes.

Zheng Yelai, president of Huawei’s Cloud BU and IT Product Line, said at the MoU-signing ceremony in Shanghai, China: ‘Huawei Cloud looks forward to co-operating with Microsoft to build an open and win-win ecosystem. The signing of this MoU marks the start of strategic co-operation between the two companies.’

Alain Crozier, CEO of Microsoft China, added: ‘As a global leader in enterprise IT, Huawei is a strategic partner for Microsoft in the mission to empower organisations as they transform. Our increased collaboration will drive innovation as we build a seamless platform to benefit customers through industry-leading technology.’

Huawei Connect 2017 concluded at the Shanghai New International Exhibition Centre yesterday. It was held under the theme ‘Grow with the Cloud’. At the event, Huawei explored how to realise new growth through digital transformation together with its customers and partners.
