England international left-back Kieran Gibbs has joined West Bromwich Albion from Arsenal on a four-year contract, his new club announced yesterday. West Brom did not reveal how much they paid for the 27-year-old, but British media reports put the fee at around £7mn ($9mn, 7.6mn euros).
Gibbs came through the youth ranks at Arsenal, but having played regularly between 2012 and 2015, he subsequently found himself on the fringes of the first team. “I watched the boys in the first few games of the season and they’ve got a lot of energy,” Gibbs said in comments published on the West Brom website. “They’ve made some good signings and I feel this is a good move for me.”
Gibbs, who won the last of his 10 England caps in 2015, follows Jay Rodriguez, Ahmed Hegazi, Gareth Barry, Yuning Zhang and Oliver Burke in signing for West Brom during the current transfer window.  Gibbs also posted a personal message on Twitter, describing his time at Arsenal as “a dream” and thanking manager Arsene Wenger, the staff, his team-mates and the club’s fans.

Hoewedes set to join Juventus in hasty transfer
Germany’s World Cup winner Benedikt Hoewedes is set to join Italian champions Juventus in a hastily arranged transfer after being stripped of the captaincy at Schalke. Juventus confirmed via the club’s official Twitter account that Hoewedes was in Turin for a medical check.
According to German media reports, the 29-year-old centre back is set to sign a one-year loan deal, which will cost Juventus 5mn euros, with an option to buy for 14mn euros if the transfer works out. After ten years and 240 appearances for the Gelsenkirchen-based club, Hoewedes’ departure is extremely hasty.
Having been Schalke’s club skipper since 2011, Hoewedes was suddenly stripped of the captaincy by new coach Domenico Tedesco and left on the bench for the Royal Blues’ first two league games this season. Tedesco, 31, praised Hoewedes for his professional attitude, but it was clear the pair did not see eye-to-eye given their respective body language on the Schalke bench. The German club could no longer guarantee the first-team football to ensure he is part of the Germany squad for next year’s World Cup. Hoewedes was one of the few to play every minute of Germany’s seven matches on their way to winning the title in Brazil in 2014.

Marseille sign Abdennour on loan
Tunisian international defender Aymen Abdennour has joined Marseille on loan from Valencia, the French club announced on Tuesday evening. Former Monaco stopper Abdennour, 28, returns to Ligue 1 after initially being linked with Zenit St Petersburg.
He passed a medical on Tuesday and will be unveiled as Marseille’s sixth summer signing on Wednesday.
He was not the only player moving from Spain to France on Tuesday as Barcelona loaned young defender Marlon Santos to Nice. Nice confirmed the arrival of the Brazilian, 21, without specifying the length of the loan agreement.

Spurs snap up Argentine starlet Foyth
Tottenham Hotspur signed promising Argentina Under-20 defender Juan Foyth from Estudiantes. Foyth, 19, agreed a five-year contract with the Premier League club after catching the eye of his compatriot and Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Tottenham reportedly beat off interest from Paris Saint-Germain to sign Foyth, who was part of the Argentina squad for the Under-20 World Cup earlier this year. He becomes Tottenham’s third new recruit in the space of a week after the arrivals of defender Davinson Sanchez from Ajax and goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga from Southampton.
Foyth is expected to be joined at Tottenham by PSG full-back Serge Aurier, with the Ivory Coast international closing in on a move after being granted a work permit.
