The Saudi-led blockade on Qatar has caused a number of human rights violations, said Qaiser Anwar. A senior member of Pakistan Welfare Forum (PWF), Anwar was a guest on the live radio show Haqeeqat on Qatar Urdu Radio yesterday. “One of the saddest consequences of the siege on Qatar was that families were torn apart. Inter-marriages between GCC nationals have been very common historically and after the blockade thousands of mixed-citizenship Qatari families were separated,” he added.
Following the severance of diplomatic ties, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain instructed their citizens to leave Doha within 14 days; Qatari nationals residing in the siege countries were also ordered to leave. “Qatari patients undergoing treatment in hospitals in the blockading countries were instructed to leave for Qatar with immediate effect. However, patients from all of the GCC countries in Qatari hospitals were given no such notice,” Anwar pointed out.
Haqeeqat aims to engage and interact with the large South Asian expatriate community in Qatar and it is a joint venture of the Gulf Times and Qatar Media Corporation Urdu Radio. The programme is broadcast from Sunday to Thursday on FM107.
