The Licensing Department at the General Directorate of Traffic has received 20 applications for setting up new driving schools in the country, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
Brigadier Salem Saqr al-Muraikhi, director of the Licensing Department, pointed out that some of these applications have been approved as they complied with the terms and conditions. These include having adequate space for the school and sufficient number of vehicles, instructors and training halls, among others.
Opening a new building of Al Khebra Driving Academy, he said the theoretical part of the driving test would be further developed by schools in co-ordination with a specialised company under the supervision of the Traffic Department.
Regarding complaints by some trainees that two chances for the road test was not enough, he said this was approved after a detailed study of the issue.
He further informed that in August, two new vehicle technical inspection stations will be opened in the Al Wukair and Al Sheehaniya areas.
The one in Al Wukair will be available for the inspection of heavy vehicles in the first phase while the next phase will include light vehicles as well.
